Rental/Mortgage Assistance

Help for those who are past due on their rent or mortgage payments and are in danger of becoming homeless.

Crosswalk Community Action Agency Emergency Service Rental/Mortgage Assistance has funding to assist families in Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson and Williamson Counties who are past due on their rent or mortgage payments and are in danger of becoming homeless or are homeless due to a recent financial crisis affecting their ability to pay housing costs.

 

Have you have experienced one of the following crisis conditions:

  • Loss of Employment or SUBSTANTIAL reduction in work hours
  • Current Medical Disability or Emergency
  • Had an unexpected car repair or household expense
  • Some other condition which constitutes a hardship comparable to the ones listed above

 

You may be eligible for assistance if you:

  • Have received a Past Due Rent statement or an Eviction Notice from your landlord
  • Have received a Past Due Payment statement from your mortgage company
  • Can show ability to pay future housing costs after receiving assistance

 

Documents that are required to apply:

  • Proof of Social Security numbers for all members of the household
  • Proof of all income for all members of the household for the 30 days prior to the application date
  • Current Benefit letter for household members receiving SSA, SSI, or SSD income
  • Proof of Physical Street Address
  • Landlord statement with the following information
    1. Tenants name and address
    2. How much monthly rent is
    3. Which months the tenant is behind/owes
    4. Total amount due without late fee
    5. Landlords name, address, phone number and signature
  • Situation statement
  • Additional documentation may be requested at the time of the application

 

NOTE:  Assistance is NOT AVAILABLE to the following households:

  • Unable to afford the following months’ rent based on submitted documentation
  • Renting a room in a home
  • Renting from a family member
  • Live in the same home as the landlord
